We were off the ship first thing this morning and caught our transfer to the Papeete airport domestic terminal. We had a very long wait at the airport. We did some reading for a while and had lunch at the airport restaurant, where Mary practiced her minimal French.
Photos of Tahiti and Papeete from the air. The airport is very close to downtown, so we got
a few photos from the air.
The flight to Bora Bora was only about 45 minutes. Photos of Bora Bora as we flew in.
The airport is on an island. In the airport lobby were several desks from the big resorts. We found our hotel, Intercontinental La Moana, and checked in. Once we had our luggage it was loaded onto a boat and we, along with two other couples, were treated to a boat ride on the huge Bora Bora lagoon.
We got checked in and had a long walk to our bungalow at the end of the dock. We had requested a bungalow at the end to maximize privacy and minimize obstructions to our view. But it’s a really long walk.
But it was worth it. What a wonderful place with views all around.
Our bungalow has a “coffee table” in front of the sofa. The table has a glass top and sides so we can look down into the small coral reef directly below. The top of the table even slides back to allow better viewing.
We were treated to a song fest on our bungalow deck. A couple of Great Crested Terns were sitting there and one seemed to be serenading (or pleading) with the other.
When we headed out in the evening we were greeted by long lines of Brown (or maybe black) Noddies roosting on the railings around the resort.
We walked across the road to a beach where we waited a while for the sunset. It wasn’t a spectacular sunset, but it was our first real sunset on a South Pacific island.
Some photos of the hotel public areas.
At dinner, Paul had this amazing looking dish that was served in a coconut shell.
